Abbott Supports A Surplus ... Next Week He Must Support Government Saves

02 May 2012

In six days time the Gillard Government will detail its plans to return the budget to surplus will Tony Abbott support our saves, or will he risk wrecking the surplus?
Mr Abbott has said that he supports returning the budget to surplus:
I think that its very important that a budget surplus be achieved.

(ABBOTT DOORSTOP 10 APRIL 2012)

If thats true, then Mr Abbott must stop saying no and he must support the Governments savings measures.
Because blocking a savings measure blocks the surplus.
Mr Abbott cant continue to hide behind a wall of negativity and simply make broad statements containing no detail.
Its not good enough to condemn the responsible savings decisions of the Government but support them in the Parliament just as he did last year.
And its not good enough for Mr Abbott to deliver a Budget-in-reply speech that says his Shadow Treasurer will outline the details like he did the year before.
And he still needs to explain what $70 billion in cuts to services hell make that his Shadow Treasurer and Finance Minister announced.
Will it include cuts to pensioners, like Joe Hockey wants? Will it include cuts to health and education?
A budget surplus is the right thing for our economy returning to around trend growth; it will continue to give the Reserve Bank greater flexibility to move on interest rates should it see fit, and will put us in a good position should global conditions worsen.
Next week will be a test for Tony Abbott will he let go of his negativity and support a budget surplus?
