Labor condemns the tragic attack on the Berlin Christmas Market.
This is a disgraceful and despicable assault that seeks to strike at the heart of the Christmas message of peace and goodwill.
Our deepest sympathies are with all those who have lost loved ones as are our wishes for a speedy recovery for those injured.
The slaughter of innocent people celebrating during the Christmas period is an especially heinous act, designed to spread fear and create division.
Labor joins with all people of goodwill in expressing our condolences and solidarity to the German people at this distressing time. We stand side by side with them in condemning this barbarous and deadly attack, and remain united with people of all faiths in our efforts to defeat terrorism and violent extremism in all its forms.
Reports are that it appears no Australians have been killed or injured in Berlin, however, I urge any of those concerned about familyorfriendsin Germany to call the DFAT 24-hour Consular Emergency Centre in Canberra on 1300 555 135 or, from overseas +61 2 6261 3305.
