DFAT Confirms Government's Climate Plans Are Hot Air

06 March 2020

Australias Ambassador for the Environment, Mr Jamie Isbister, has confirmed that the Morrison Governments planned use of so-called Kyoto carryover credits to meet their inadequate emissions targets is leaving Australia isolated.
When Senator Penny Wong asked in Senate Estimates if other countries were looking to use the accounting trick of so-called Kyoto carryover credits Mr Ibister said, There was no other country that advocated or supported that position.
Even the Conservative UK Government wants Scott Morrison to stop using the dodgy account tricks with Mr Isbister giving evidence that The UK Government has expressed a view that their preference would be that the Australian Government wasnt utilising Kyoto credits.
This comes after nine top international law Professors wrote to the Prime Minister advising the Governments plan to use so-called Kyoto carryover credits is "legally baseless in international law".
When asked about that advice by Senators Wong and Ayres, Mr Ibister could not defend the Governments plans to use dodgy and legally baseless accounting tricks, and responded the Government hasnt got a view and isnt going to get into a legal argument.
The Morrison Government is internationally isolated, trying to use illegal accounting tricks, and doesnt have science based emission reduction targets. This Governments entire approach to climate change is nothing more than hot air.
