Delegates and attendees at Labors 48th National Conference are encouraged to give generously to conference charity partner, Catherine House.
Catherine House is located in the Adelaide CBD and provides accommodation and support services to women without children who are experiencing homelessness.
South Australian Senator Penny Wong will join Catherine House Chief Executive Louise Miller Frost and Shadow Minister for Housing Doug Cameron to announce the partnership at todays Ending Homelessness is Possible Fringe event.
Catherine House is among the services that would benefit from a Shorten Labor Governments $88 million commitment to a Safe Housing Fund which would increase transitional housing options for women at risk of homelessness.
Labor recognises that the number of women experiencing homelessness has risen significantly in recent years.
To help address this and other housing affordability issues, Labor has today announced we will invest in 250,000 new houses over the next decade which will be rented at 20 per cent less than the market rate.
These properties would be available to Australians on low and moderate incomes, saving a family $92 based on the national rental average of $462 a week.
Todays announcement adds to Labors suite of policies to combat rising homelessness among women and to improve housing affordability for all Australians.
