Directors Appointed to Medibank Private Board

04 December 2012

Minister for Finance and Deregulation, Senator Penny Wong, today announced the appointment of the Hon Anna Bligh and the re-appointment of Dr Cherrell Hirst AO as Non-Executive Directors of Medibank Private Limited.
Ms Bligh has had a distinguished career in public office and her expertise across a wide range of public policy areas will be of great value to Medibank, Senator Wong said.
Ms Bligh will commence her three year term from 21 December 2012, replacing Mr Philip Twyman who joined the Board in December 2007.
During Mr Twymans time on the Board, Medibank has undergone extensive change and growth, developing from a private health insurer into an integrated health solutions provider, Senator Wong said.
Dr Cherrell Hirst has also been re-appointed for three years, her second term on the Medibank Private Board.
Dr Hirst has extensive Board experience, particularly in the clinical health field, Senator Wong said.
Dr Hirst is also Chair of Medibanks Health and Business Innovation Committee.
These appointments take the level of female representation on the Board (which is comprised of eight members) from 50 per cent to 62.5 per cent.
