Hockey Confirms He Will Hide Policy Costings

22 September 2011

Joe Hockey has confirmed that he will hide his policy costings from public scrutiny at the next election, telling The Sydney Morning Herald today that he will use private sector accountants to cost his policies.
Mr Hockey has also indicated he may use the Parliamentary Budget Office to cost his policies in secret, despite the Opposition voting against and publicly criticising the PBO over the past month.
Mr Hockey has said he might use the PBO outside of the election period when costings are confidential, but will dodge any public costings by the PBO during the election period when he has to be open and transparent with the Australian people.
It is far from surprising that Joe Hockey wants to hide from scrutiny and not have the Opposition's election costings verified - again.
After all, this is the same party who engaged a private sector accounting firm at last year's election and were exposed for having a humiliating $10.6 billion of errors in their costings. This was one of the key reasons the Liberals were not trusted to form Government.
This is also the same party who now has a $70 billion black hole on their books.
The idea that the Coalition will go through another campaign hiding their costings yet again reinforces why this is the least qualified economic team ever presented to the country.
Their incompetence at every turn when it comes to the Budget demonstrates why they are completely incapable of managing an economy.
And if you can't manage the economy, you are not fit to govern the country.
