Hong Kong

15 November 2019

Labor is deeply concerned by the escalation of violence in Hong Kong.
We urge Hong Kong authorities to engage in a genuine dialogue with the public that addresses widespread concerns, including police conduct, and builds trust between all parties.
Escalation must be avoided in order to reach a peaceful solution that upholds Hong Kongs freedoms and maintains the One Country, Two Systems arrangement, including the rule of law and independent judiciary.
We continue to urge authorities to exercise maximum restraint and civilians to avoid violent confrontations.
We encourage Australians in or travelling to Hong Kong, to closely monitor Smartraveller.com.au.
