Labor Will Fight Abbott's Cruel Cuts to SA

19 June 2014

The Abbott Governments vicious cuts will hit South Australians hard by slashing funding for hospitals, schools and pensioner concessions.
Todays State Budget has revealed the true cost to SA of Tony Abbotts broken promises a massive $5.5 billion in cuts to our schools and hospitals over the next decade and a $123 million cut to pensioner concession funding over the next four years.
These are not just numbers on the page.
These cuts will hurt SA families in real ways.
They will jeopardise upgrades to our busiest hospitals, put the quality of teaching and schools throughout the State at risk, make it harder for older South Australians to make ends meet, undermine local government services and reduce funding for regional roads.
This represents an unprecedented assault on the welfare of South Australians.
Before the last federal election, Tony Abbott promised no cuts to health, no cuts to education, no changes to pensions, and no new taxes.
He has broken every one of these promises, ripping up agreements with the SA Government and betraying South Australians.
SA Liberals know the State cannot afford these cuts yet they have completely failed to stand up to Mr Abbott on behalf of South Australia.
That is why the federal Labor Opposition will join Premier Jay Weatherill and the SA Government in fighting against Tony Abbotts cuts.
