I was very pleased to meet today with Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi.
There is strong bipartisan support for the Australia-Indonesia relationship and both sides of politics have supported the bilateral visit this weekend.
Indonesia is our closest neighbour in Asia, and Australia and Indonesia cooperate in a range of areas including in trade and investment, security, defence, education and tourism.
Indonesia is of paramount importance to Australia, and Labor puts Indonesia at the centre of Australian foreign policy in our region.
Labor will seek to broaden and deepen our ties with Indonesia we see great potential to broaden our economic cooperation, to initiate more interfaith dialogue promoting tolerance in both our societies, and to strengthen our people to people links through education exchange and language study.
Australia and Indonesia need to be genuine strategic partners. It is in both of our interests to work closely together and to ensure that our relationship is consistently prioritised by both sides.
