I thank Claire Moore for her contribution to Labor and the country and in particular for her work as Shadow Minister for International Development and the Pacific.
Claire and I were first elected to Parliament in 2001, and throughout our time here Claire has been a passionate advocate for equality, in particular the rights of women.
Its been a privilege to have worked with Claire in the Foreign Affairs portfolio, in particular to secure Labors commitment to rebuild Australias international development assistance program.
Claire has been a determined advocate for the worlds most disadvantaged people and for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and their commitment to end poverty and ensure that no one is left behind in our world.
As Manager of Opposition Business in the Senate from 2013 to 2016, Claire formed an important part of Labors Senate team that protected the most vulnerable from the Abbott-Turnbull Government and in particular the GP Tax and vicious cuts proposed in the 2014 Budget.
I wish Claire all the best and thank her for her service to the Labor Party, the people of Queensland and the Senate, and her support in the Foreign Affairs portfolio.
