Minister for Finance and Deregulation, Senator Penny Wong, has today announced SG Fleet Australia Pty Ltd as the Vehicle Fleet Management and Leasing Services provider for the Australian Government.
Under the contract, SG Fleet will assist in the selection of Australian-made, environmentally-friendly cars for the Commonwealth fleet in line with the Fleet Vehicle Selection Policy strengthen in April this year.
The contract will also deliver:
reduced costs for agencies through better management and maintenance of vehicles;
more transparent fees and charges;
improvements in technology to enhance vehicle needs forecasting and fleet optimisation services; and
innovation in servicing the Commonwealth.
The contract has been awarded for an initial term of six and a half years and applies to around 14,000 vehicles across 102 departments and agencies.
Departments and agencies covered by the Financial Management and Accountability Act 1997 will be required to source and lease vehicles through SG Fleet from 1 February 2013.
SG Fleet was awarded the contract through a competitive open tender process by the Department of Finance and Deregulation, which was overseen by business, legal and probity advisers to the tender process. The tender process represented the largest commercial opportunity for the industry for the next decade.
