Labor expresses our deepest sympathy to all those affected by the devastating earthquake and tsunami in Sulawesi.
This latest disaster is a tragic and terrible event for the people of Indonesia, especially coming so soon after last months Lombok earthquake.
Already the death toll is in the hundreds, with many more left without power and shelter.
Once again our thoughts are with our friends and neighbours throughout Indonesia.
Labor stands with the Government in offering whatever support is needed to help the people of Indonesia recover from this tragedy.
Australia should consider all available options to help in the immediate aftermath of this tragedy, as well as longer term assistance to support the people of Sulawesi to rebuild their homes and infrastructure.
Anyone concerned about family or friends in Sulawesi should call the DFAT 24-hour Consular Emergency Centre in Canberra on 1300 555 135 or, from overseas +61 2 6261 3305.
