Visit to Singapore and Myanmar

25 June 2017

I leave Australia today for a visit to Singapore and Myanmar where I will be meeting with political leaders, officials and commentators.
Our bilateral relations with Singapore are essential to Australias continued prosperity and security in the region.
In Singapore I will discuss our nations Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and continued engagement in our 52 years of diplomatic relations.
Australia is assisting Myanmar through economic reform, peace negotiations and a complex transition to democracy.
This visit will address the challenges posed to peace and stability in our region.
I will also be a guest of the Global Fund, visiting some of the vital work they are doing to help rid Myanmar, and the world, of TB, malaria and AIDS.
Following on from my recent visits to India, China, Indonesia and Timor-Leste, this trip is a further opportunity to reaffirm Australias continuing commitment to key partners in Asia.
